MQLs vs. Identified Visitors

Your customers and prospects will generate activity in your reports and in the Reporting Dashboard. At the beginning, much of this activity is considered anonymous because we have previously been unable to detect who they are. Over time we gain information either directly or indirectly about their identity. Once we have at least an email address to associate with a person, we consider them to be Identified.

What’s an MQL?

An MQL is an example of a person who has identified themselves through the way they interact with your content. An MQL can be a Social MQL (collected through Likes and Comments, etc on social media), an Email MQL (collected through a click on a link inside an email campaign) or a Form MQL (collected through a gated form filled before downloading a high value content asset). These MQLs are directly linked to actions on your published content. The most qualified is the Form MQL because that is an explicit act of providing contact information in exchange for access to valuable content.

What’s an Identified Visitor?

An Identified Visitor is tracked through your Partner Page. They can come directly from the same actions that produce an MQL but they can also come through indirect activity. An Identified Visitor can be established by any other prior actions with your content that occurs on your Partner Page. The Partner Page keeps track of potential buyers and remembers them so that they can be attributed to content activity over time and through actions that would otherwise be anonymous.

How are Identified Visitors established?

For example, if you send an email campaign, the clicks on that email that go to your Partner Page will establish an Identified Visitor. This visitor is attributed directly to that email, however, they are also then attributable to future social and blog posts because we have remembered them from the original email click and now all future clicks to one of your Partner Pages will be from this Identified Visitor.

An Identified Visitor can also originate from a person who signs into your Partner Page to use more valuable features such as the ability to mark favorite content, pre-fill gated forms, keep a search history, etc.

Identified Visitors are a powerful result of the content you publish and host on your Partner Page. It is the way in which you can more broadly track and understand the behavior and interest of your prospects.
